Follow the footsteps of an old legend that tells of an entire army of knights hidden within Velká Čantoryje , ready to protect the region in times of danger. The 10 km educational trail with an elevation gain of 579 m offers many other points of interest. Learn about Jiří Třanovský**, discover how people lived around Velká Čantoryje, and enjoy views into Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. The second part of the trail is also available on the Polish side of Velká Čantoryje, accessible, for example, via the cable car from the town of Ustroń.
Route Description
The trail begins in Nýdek square at the first information board showing the nearly 10 km route. Follow the green-and-white trail marker, which coincides with the red tourist trail (TZ). After 1.5 km, you’ll reach the second station at a mountain spring. From here, the trail climbs past the Třanovský monument to the fourth stop near the Čantoryje Nature Reserve.
Next comes a steeper climb to the chalet on Malá Čantoryje . From there, the summit of Velká Čantoryje and its viewing tower are just 0.5 km away, where you can take a break and enjoy a snack. From the viewing tower, descend 0.6 km along the international Czech–Polish trail. At the crossroads, turn right onto a beautiful forest path through a beech forest, where you’ll learn more about the local nature and life beneath the legendary mountain. After 20–30 minutes, you’ll return to the spring where the educational loop ends. The final stretch leads back down to Nýdek town square, where the trail began.
…and while exploring this area, don’t forget to visit the historic lime kilns in Vendryně , which document an important stage in the region’s iron-processing history.
